Upward Bound-Avila University Has Been Refunded!

It brings great pleasure to announce that Upward Bound at Avila University has been awarded a grant to continue providing services to area high school youths preparing them for their collegiate aspirations for the next five years (through 2017).

The grant writing process was a stressful and tedious one, but special thanks goes to Darby Gough, Susan Randolph, Jason Baldwin, Angie Heer, Jamel Malone, Anna McDonald, Grandview High School, and Ruskin High School with their diligent work and dedication in getting the grant prepared and submitted. Without their efforts, many high school students in our community would lack the guidance and tools to go to college.

Upward Bound at Avila University assists low-income, first-generation (neither parent has a college degree) high school students at Grandview High School and Ruskin High School. During the academic year, participants receive tutoring, academic advising, campus visits, and test prep. During the summer, participants receive instruction in core areas such as mathematics, science, and communication arts, and college planning. In addition, participants stay on campus at Avila University to simulate the college experience. With the renewal of the grant, these services can continue to be provided.

Hooray for Upward Bound!
