Summer Excellence Institute 2012 Information

Participants and parents,

With the academic year coming to a conclusion, our summer program, Summer Excellence Institute 2012 looks to come into the picture. There are a few things to keep in mind as an Upward Bound participant or as an Upward Bound parent.
  • To participate in Summer Excellence Institute 2012, students must apply for admission. You can find the application here. Many forms included in the application are forms that were completed at SEI Orientation in the past. Completed applications can be returned at tutoring, at April activities, April Saturday Session, fax, email, brought to the Upward Bound office or "snail" mail. The deadline for the application is April 27.
  • SEI 2012 is required for all students. By not participating in SEI 2012, participants in Upward Bound could run the risk of being dismissed from the Upward Bound project at Avila University. If a participant has something academic or cultural going on over the summer (summer school, Boy Scouts, band camp), notify the Upward Bound office immediately to make arrangements.
  • Summer Excellence Institute 2012 Orientation will be Thursday May 10, 2012 at 6:30 PM at Whitfield Center on the campus of Avila University. At orientation, rules, guidelines, expectations and other information will be discussed in regards to SEI 2012. This will also be a time for participants and parents to ask questions about SEI 2012. Orientation should last about an hour.
  • Key Summer Excellence Institute 2012 dates are as followed:
  • Move In: Sunday, June 3rd starting at 2:00 PM
  • First Day of Class: Monday, June 4
  • 4th of July Break: Wednesday, July 4
  • Last Day of Class/Move Out: Friday, July 13

Spring Sports Information
With spring sports underway at Ruskin HS and Grandview HS, we'd like to offer quick tips to spring athletes as they start their seasons:
  • Stop in before practice to get announcements! Knowing what is going on wit Upward Bound is very important. Do not fall off the map!
  • If you're falling behind in a class and need help and don't want to miss much practice, let the Upward Bound office know your situation. We can help find a tutor for you to help with your schedule.
  • Schedule your activity around your practices and games. With many activities being offered at different times and dates, attending activities should not be hard to do.
We encourage students to participate in athletics and other extra-curricular activities both in and outside of school. We wish luck to all of our spring athletes!

Tutoring Reminders

  • 6 hours of tutoring is required for students NOT on probation
  • 10 of hours of tutoring is required for students on probation
