On Saturday September 8th, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Upward Bound participants will have a chance to participate in the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival at Crown Center. This activity is open for only 10 participants.

Street painting was created in Italy many centuries ago and brought to life by artists using pastel chalks as their medium and pavement/brick as their canvas.

You are invited to experience the creation of these street paintings, interact with the artist, enjoy street performers, Children's Creative Corridor and Workshops.

To learn more about the Festival, go to the Festival's website here or check out the video from the 2010 Festival below. To sign up for this event, please contact the Upward Bound office at 816.501.2438 or upward.bound@avila.edu.

PKD Walk Information

On Saturday, September 8th from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM, Upward Bound participants can take part in community service, the annual Walk for PDK. The walk is the only nationally-run fundraising event aimed at finding treatments and cure for polycystic kidney diseases - one of the most life threatening genetic diseases affecting millions worldwide.

The PKD Foundation is leading the fight to bring a treatment and a cure to patients all over the world. Never before have we been closer to getting a treatment into the hands of those who need it most. With your help, we can put a treatment within reach.

The Walk for PKD started in 1998 as a grassroots effort and has become the PKD Foundation’s signature fundraising event, raising more than $15 million for PKD research, education, advocacy, support and awareness. More than 60 walks occur every fall in cities across the United States and Canada, with thousands of PKD patients, their families and friends fundraising and walking together to end PKD. The event is run almost entirely by passionate and dedicated PKD Chapter volunteers.

To sign up for this event, please contact the Upward Bound office at 816.501.2438 or upward.bound@avila.edu.
